DENTON — North Texas snapped UTSA's 15-match winning streak by sweeping the Roadrunners on Thursday night (25-21, 27-25, 25-17).
The Mean Green (20-9, 10-5 C-USA) improved its winning streak to eight, as AVCA/Sports Imports Player of the Week Carnae Dillard racked up a match-high 25 kills and .450 attack percentage.
Dajana Boskovic registered 17 kills and 10 digs for her 10th double-double of the year to go with five blocks, while Dempsey Thornton chipped in with 11 and a pair of blocks.
UTSA (18-8, 14-1 C-USA) was held to a .250 team hitting percentage while North Texas hit a .336 clip. UNT hit above .300 in each of the three sets and held the Roadrunners to a .071 attack percentage in the final frame.
UTSA was unable to keep up with the fast-paced Mean Green and dropped the opening set. North Texas jumped to an 8-2 lead before the Roadrunners called a timeout. However, the Mean Green continued to pull away from the Roadrunners.
With the second set tied at six, UTSA went on top with four consecutive points. Ten ties filled the stat sheet with Dillard tying the score for the final time at 25. Back-to-back blocks by Amanda Chamberlain, Hanna Forst and Chelsea Abii gave UNT the two-point win and sent the Mean Green into intermission with a commanding 2-0 lead.
North Texas carried the momentum over to the third set out and cruised to the sweep. UTSA played from behind the entire way and pulled to within one three times, but it was not enough.
UTSA will close out the regular season on Saturday at Rice (21-8, 11-4 C-USA). First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
