UTSA women to compete at NCAA South Central Regional on Friday

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will return to action on Friday morning when it travels north to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA South Central Regional. The women's 6,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at noon at Agri Park and schools from the states of Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas will make up the field.

The Roadrunners, who are coming off a seventh-place finish at the Conference USA Championships, will face runners from 25 teams — Arkansas, Arkansas State, Baylor, Central Arkansas, Houston, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, McNeese State, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, Texas, Texas-Pan American, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State, Tulane, UALR and UT Arlington — in the race that precedes the NCAA Championships.

The top two teams, along with the top four individuals not on an advancing squad, will qualify for the national meet, which is scheduled for next Saturday, Nov. 22, in Terre Haute, Ind.

Stephanie Wangui raced to a top-10 finish and she led UTSA at the C-USA Championships on Nov. 1. Wangui circled the 5,000-meter Eagle Point Cross Country Course in 17:20.7 en route to 10th place and the senior from Leander was the Roadrunners' top performer for the third consecutive outing and fourth time overall this season.
