UTSA to host Southern Miss on Sunday afternoon

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will look to continue its winning ways when it hosts Southern Miss at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Roadrunners will seek their 20th consecutive regular season Conference USA win to match the league record.

The Roadrunners come into the match riding a 12-match winning streak and enter the weekend with a 15-7 overall record and perfect 11-0 mark in conference play.

Not only have the Roadrunners been one of the hottest-hitting teams in the league, holding the third-best attack percentage, but they also are the only undefeated team in the circuit.

UTSA’s offense ranks in the top five in conference-only matches, while leading the pack in digs. In the last three contests, UTSA has registered 60-plus kills and even totaled a season third-best 12.5 blocks last Sunday at Charlotte. The Roadrunners are hitting a collective .233 and holding opponents to a .194 clip.

Outside hitter Dajana Boskovic is averaging a team-leading 4.16 kills per set to go along with 160 digs and 49 blocks. Three-time C-USA Setter of the Week, Jessica Waldrip aides the squad's hitting percentage with 10.55 assists per set, which ranks third in the conference. Defensively, junior Annie Kunes owns a league-leading 4.49 digs per set.

UTSA holds a 4-0 advantage in the all-time series with the Golden Eagles.

Southern Miss will visit the Alamo City after playing at UTEP on Friday evening. The Golden Eagles, 18-9 overall, sit fourth in the league standings with a 7-3 mark.

Southern Miss, which has won four of its last five outings, holds the league’s sixth-best hitting percentage of .215. They lead the league in assists with 13.37 per set in addition to ranking second in kills (14.20).

The duo of Stephany Purdue and Jasmine Crowell pace the Golden Eagles offense. Purdue is averaging a team-best 3.27 kills per stanza, while Crowell is hitting .365.
