Wangui leads UTSA women to seventh place at Conference USA Championships

DENTON — Stephanie Wangui raced to a top-10 finish and she led the UTSA women's cross country team to seventh place at Saturday's Conference USA Championships.

Wangui circled the 5,000-meter Eagle Point Cross Country Course in 17:20.7 en route to 10th place and the senior from Leander was the Roadrunners' top performer for the third consecutive outing and fourth time overall this season.

Emily Perez was one spot back in 11th after clocking a 17:22.3 and Grace Kohler (39th/18:29.5), Kerstin Sheehan (55th/18:56.0) and Brianna Mendiola (60th/19:20.0) rounded out UTSA's scoring contingent.

Middle Tennessee captured the team title with 55 points, while Rice (62) and meet host North Texas (91) rounded out the top three. The Roadrunners netted 168 points en route to their seventh-place finish.

Meanwhile, Rice's Cali Roper claimed the individual crown in 16:43.7.

UTSA will return to the course on Friday, Nov. 14, at the NCAA South Central Regional in Fayetteville, Ark.
