SAN ANTONIO — Jackie Moreau and Karla Pineda each recorded a goal and an assist to lead visiting North Texas to a 2-0 victory at UTSA in Conference USA action on Sunday afternoon at Park West Athletics Complex.
Kauwela Neal led the Roadrunners (5-6-1, 1-3 C-USA) with three shots, while Anka Grotle, Anissa Munson and Happy Orere-Amadu each finished with a pair.
Meanwhile, Jackie Kerestine led the Mean Green (10-3, 4-0 C-USA) to their fourth consecutive shutout with six saves.
Moreau put North Texas on the board with a quick strike in the second minute. Pineda sent a corner kick into the box that Moreau headed past Katherine Tesno for her first goal of the season and a 1-0 advantage.
Playing with the wind, UTSA would total eight shots in the opening half, but could not find the back of the net.
The Mean Green started the second period in similar fashion with an early goal in the 48th minute.
Tesno picked up a pass from a UTSA defender just inside the 18-yard box that resulted in an indirect free kick for North Texas. Moreau tapped the ball to Pineda, who fired a shot around the UTSA wall to double the lead to 2-0.
The deficit would prove to be too great for the Roadrunners, who could not break up the shutout over the final 42 minutes.
UTSA will be back in action at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, when it travels to Huntington, W.Va., for a matchup at Marshall (4-4-3, 1-1-1 C-USA).
