SAN ANTONIO — Anissa Munson scored a goal and added a pair of assists to lift UTSA to a season-high five goals in a 5-0 shutout of visiting Southern Miss on Thursday night at Park West Athletics Complex in the season finale for both squads.
With her two assists, the Helotes native set a new school record for helpers in a season with eight, and the Roadrunners (6-10-2, 2-7-1 C-USA), who tied a season high with 22 shots, ended the campaign with their highest scoring output in a Conference USA match. Meanwhile, goalie Katherine Tesno made four saves for her second shutout and the team’s fourth of the season.
On Senior Night, it was a pair of upperclassmen that got the scoring started for the home squad and quickly put the Golden Eagles (5-11-3, 0-7-3 C-USA) in a hole.
In the 22nd minute, senior Taylor Wingerden chipped a pass to Munson, who beat goalie Shelby Presnell for the match’s first winner. Eight minutes later it was Munson with a pass to Brianna Livecchi for a header that extended the lead to 2-0, which is where the score remained at halftime.
UTSA continued to pressure in the second half and Gracie Knight’s first collegiate goal, which came on a shot from about 35-yards out, in the 53rd minute made the score 3-0. Senior Charlotte Husoe assisted a winner for Kaja Skare in the 59th minute, while senior Happy Orere-Amadu capped the night with a goal on another helper from Munson in the 69th minute.
When the dust had settled, the Roadrunners came away with their most goals since a 7-0 victory against Prairie View A&M on Sept. 16, 2011.
