SAN ANTONIO — Abby Portyrata carded a 1-under-par 71 to lead the UTSA women’s golf team on the final day of The Alamo Invitational on Tuesday at Briggs Ranch Golf Club (par 72/6,428 yards).
Portyrata posted her season-low round behind four birdies, including three as part of a 3-under 33 on the back nine. The freshman from North Chesterfield, Va., registered a 75 in each of the first two rounds and she finished in a tie for 37th at 5-over 221, a season best.
Aimee Ponte was one shot behind Portyrata, tying for 44th at 6-over 222 after turning in rounds of 77, 71 and 74. The sophomore from St. Sampson’s, U.K., matched Portyrata with a 33 on the back with four birdies against one bogey.
Brogan Townend (71-84-74—229) and Nikki Long (73-79-77—229) ended up in a tie for 67th, while Becky McGeehan tied for 70th (75-82-74—231). Competing as an individual, Libby Thomas tied for 67th (77-80-72—229).
As a team, the Roadrunners finished 15th with a 294-307-293—894 in their final event of the fall.
No. 27 LSU captured the team title with a 23-under 841 (279-284-278), one shot off the tournament record 840 registered by Oklahoma last year. No. 5 Arkansas (848), No. 24 Auburn (850), 20th-ranked Texas A&M (852) and Florida State (858) rounded out the top five.
Auburn’s Sophie Schubert established a new tournament record with a 12-under 204 (65-74-65) to claim individual medalist honors.
The Roadrunners will open their spring season at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Feb. 22-24 in New Orleans, La.
