TULSA, Okla. — Tomas Stillman saw his run at this week's ITA All-American Championships Main Singles Draw end in the first round on Thursday.
The senior dropped a tight 7-5, 7-5 decision to the No. 6 seed and eighth-ranked player in the country Winston Lin of Columbia.
He then moved over to the consolation bracket but was eliminated from the tournament by No. 25 Andrew Adams of South Carolina in a 7-5, 6-4 decision.
Stillman's record now stands at 12-2 after opening the fall campaign with a dozen consecutive victories.
The Harlingen native, who was named Conference USA Athlete of the Month on Wednesday, made his way out of the Pre-Qualifying Singles Draw with victories against Green Bay's Leopold Gomez Islinger (3-6, 6-4, 6-1), Ohio State's Matt Mendez (3-6, 6-0, 7-6 [4]) and Wake Forest's Skander Mansouri (6-1, 7-6 [5]) last weekend.
He then advanced out of the Qualifying Draw with three wins against nationally-ranked opponents.
The 2014 C-USA Newcomer of the Year posted a 6-4, 6-4 sweep of No. 119 Sasha Guzan of South Florida in the first round on Monday and then upset 64th-ranked Dusty Boyer of Nebraska, 6-3, 6-3, on Tuesday. He earned one of 16 qualifying spots in the Main Singles Draw with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph against No. 90 Rhys Johnson of Vanderbilt on Wednesday.
Stillman combined with fellow senior Joel Rubio for a 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3) victory against Northwestern's Mihir Kumar and Logan Staggs in the first round of the Qualifying Doubles Draw. The duo was ousted in the next stage by South Florida's Oliver Pramming and Justin Roberts, 7-5, 6-1.
In other action, a trio of Roadrunners bounced back from first round setbacks in the Pre-Qualifying Singles Draw with victories in the consolation bracket.
Yannick Junger beat Iowa's Jake Jacoby, 7-6 (5), 7-5; Dioga Casa downed Weber State's Todd Fought, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (7); and Jacob Rother rallied for a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 triumph against Oral Roberts' Michael Sosnowski.
