Wangui, Perez race to top-15 finishes at Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Stephanie Wangui and Emily Perez both finished in the top 15 to lead the UTSA women's cross country team at Friday's Crimson Classic.

Wangui covered the 5,000-meter Harry Pritchett Running Course in 17:48.16 en route to 13th place and the senior from Leander paced the squad for the third time in four meets this season.

Meanwhile, Perez was one spot behind her teammate in 14th after clocking a 17:48.62.

Grace Kohler (118th/19:23.51), Kerstin Sheehan (137th/19:37.66) and Kristina Cantu (185th/20:22.97) made up the rest of the Roadrunners' scoring contingent.

Host Alabama won the meet with 68 points, while Georgia Tech (116) and Auburn (130) made up the rest of the top three. UTSA placed 14th among the 25 participating Division I teams with its 370 points.

Tennessee's Chelsea Blaase easily won the individual crown in 16:37.66.

The Roadrunners will return to action in two weeks at the Conference USA Championships in Denton. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1.
