WACO — Miriam Rosell Canudas won her opening two singles matches to reach the round of 32 on Thursday, but her perfect run to open the season came to an end the following day at this weekend's USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships.
Rosell Canudas ran her record to 10-0 following victories against Incarnate Word's Rachel Sadiq (6-4, 6-3) and Texas State's Shannon Beckett (6-1, 6-1) during the event's opening day. However, the sophomore from Barcelona, Spain, was unable to get past Rice's Katherine Ip, the tournament's eighth seed, on Friday and she saw her flawless run to open the season come to an end with a 6-3, 7-6 (6) setback.
Meanwhile, Jacobea Junger won her opening-round match in straight sets against Incarnate Word's Sarah Saverdra (6-1, 6-2), but she fell in the following round to Texas A&M's Rachel Pierson (7-6 [2], 7-5).
The pair teamed up for a first-round doubles triumph against Texas State's Pippa Carr Ana Laura Gutierrez (8-3), but their tournament came to an end in the round of 16 with an 8-4 setback to fourth-seeded Seda Arantekin and Stefanie Tan from TCU.
The Roadrunners will conclude their fall campaign at next Saturday's Texas State Play Date.
