UTSA men to return to action at Friday's Crimson Classic

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's cross country team will return to the course on Friday evening when it competes at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The 8,000-meter race is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Harry Pritchett Running Course.

This year's meet will consist of 33 teams and the Roadrunners will square off against student-athletes from Alabama State, Auburn, Belmont, Blue Mountain, Clemson, Emmanuel, Georgia Tech., Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Louisiana Tech, Loyola - New Orleans, Louisiana-Monroe, LSU, Meridian Community College, Mississippi State, Mississippi Valley, North Florida, Oxford College, Rice, Sam Houston State, Samford, Southeastern Louisiana, South Alabama, Stephen F. Austin, Stillman, Tennessee, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Trevecca Nazarene, Troy, Tulane and West Alabama in addition to the host Crimson Tide.

UTSA received top-10 performances from Mike Medrano and Javier Salas en route to a third-place finish three weeks ago at the Ken Garland Invitational.

Medrano, who placed eighth, circled the Eagle Point Cross Country Course four-mile loop in 20:38.8 and the senior from Mission topped the Roadrunners' contingent for the third consecutive meet to open the campaign. Meanwhile, Salas was one spot behind his teammate in ninth after clocking a 20:43.3.
