SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will send Jacobea Junger and Miriam Rosell Canudas to this weekend's USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships. The four-day tournament is scheduled to begin on Thursday morning at Baylor's Hurd Tennis Center in Waco.
Seventeen schools will be represented at the event and there will be a 128-player singles draw in addition to one 64-team doubles bracket.
Rosell Canudas ran her fall singles record to a perfect 8-0 to lead the Roadrunners at their last tournament, the Wildcats Invitational. The sophomore from Barcelona, Spain, won all four of her matches in the Wildcats Main Draw for her second championship of the fall campaign. She now has won all eight of her tournament pairings, seven of which have come in straight sets.
Meanwhile, Junger has won seven outings this fall en route to a pair of consolation titles at the Marco & Co. Catering Islanders Open and Wildcats Invitational, as she bounced back from opening-round defeats at both events.
The pair, which teamed up to win a team-high 12 matches at the top spot in the doubles lineup last spring, also has teamed up for four triumphs during the fall campaign.
