UTSA finishes 10th at Betsy Rawls Invitational

AUSTIN — The UTSA women's golf team finished 10th at the Betsy Rawls Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at the University of Texas Golf Club (par 72/6,225 yards).

The Roadrunners posted a 311 in the final round behind a 73 from Abby Portyrata and finished with a 933 (297-325-311) on the strength of a 19th-place effort by Brogan Townend. The junior from England posted a 70-81-77—228 that included nine birdies for her second top-20 finish of the fall.

Portyrata, a freshman from North Chesterfield, Va., birdied both par fives on the front nine as part of a 1-under 35 en route to the 1-over-par 73, her top round of the season. She finished in a tie for 36th with a 231 (76-82-73).

Aimee Ponte tied for 44th with a 235 (79-76-80), Becky McGeehan was 62nd (72-87-82—241) and Nikki Long tied for 67th (79-86-81) to round out the UTSA lineup.

No. 16 UNLV won a scorecard playoff against Tulane to capture the team title after both squads carded an 895. Baylor (898), No. 43 SMU (900) and Miami (902) made up the rest of the top five. Baylor's Hayley Davis claimed individual medalist honors with a 2-under 214 (65-75-74).

The Roadrunners will wrap up the fall campaign when they host The Alamo Invitational from Oct. 26-28 at Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio.
