AUSTIN — The UTSA women's golf team is in ninth place after a windy second round of the Betsy Rawls Invitational, which was played on Monday at the University of Texas Golf Club (par 72/6,225 yards).
The Roadrunners carded a 325 in a round that saw Miami (Fla.) post the lowest total, a 306, while battling the gusty conditions in the wake of a cold front that blew through the area early in the morning. UTSA's 36-hole tally of 622 stands ninth in the 15-team field and is just six shots behind No. 44 Texas (616).
Aimee Ponte posted UTSA's low round of the day with a 4-over-par 76. The sophomore is tied for 30th with a 155 (79-76) through 36 holes.
Meanwhile, Brogan Townend is tied for 12th with a 70-81—151 with 18 holes remaining. The junior from England has registered seven birdies in the first two rounds.
Abby Portyrata is in a tie for 43rd (76-82—158), Becky McGeehan is tied for 48th (72-87—159) and Nikki Long is 63rd (79-86—165) to round out the UTSA lineup.
No. 16 UNLV is at 22-over 598 and maintains a slim lead for the top spot ahead of Baylor (599) and No. 43 SMU (599), followed by Tulane (605), 17th-ranked San Diego State (611), Miami (613) and No. 36 Iowa State (614).
Hayley Davis holds the individual lead at 4-under 140 (65-75).
The final round is scheduled to get underway Tuesday morning.
