Singletary, Ianno named Conference USA Players of the Week on Monday

IRVING — Robert Singletary and Sean Ianno were named Conference USA Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday.

Both players were instrumental in UTSA's come-from-behind 16-13 Homecoming victory against FIU this past Saturday.

Singletary was a one-man wrecking crew for the Roadrunners, as the senior defensive end racked up 10 tackles, including a program-record 4.5 for loss (third-most by a Football Bowl Subdivision player this season), three sacks, a UTSA-record two forced fumbles, one pass breakup and a quarterback hurry to help lead a defense that held the Panthers to just 259 yards of offense (118 rush/141 pass).

Meanwhile, Ianno's 39-yard field goal with 50 seconds remaining was the fourth game-winning field goal of his career. The senior from Pflugerville, who kicked a trio of three-pointers to push his season total to 11 (in 14 attempts), tied the game at 13 with a 27-yarder with 1:54 remaining and earlier was good from 42 yards out at the 8:08 mark of the third quarter.

UTSA (2-4, 1-1 C-USA) will return to the road on Saturday when it travels to Louisiana Tech (3-3, 2-0 C-USA). The third all-time meeting between the two programs is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m.
