RUSTON, La. — Three Roadrunners tallied double-figure kills to pace UTSA to a four-set victory (23-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-21) at Louisiana Tech on Friday night at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Dajana Boskovic registered a match-high 20 kills, while Dempsey Thornton added 15 and Kasey Kiefer a career-best 10.
Defensively, three Roadrunners also tallied double-figure digs with junior Annie Kunes leading the way with 21.
Senior Lauren Muenchow added two kills while matching a career-best seven blocks.
After the Roadrunners (10-7, 6-0 C-USA) dropped the opening set, 25-23, UTSA bounced back to their winning ways. In the second set, The Birds hit .400 while holding the Lady Techsters to a .118 attack percentage. Boskovic and Thornton each tallied five kills each. UTSA was off to a hot start in the second frame, leading from the get-go.
The Roadrunners kept the momentum going after intermission, as they took the third set 25-17. The Lady Techsters hit a -.075, while UTSA posted a .212 attack percentage. The Roadrunners led out of the gates once again and never looked back.
UTSA led by as many as 12 in the third at the 20-8 mark on a Thornton kill. Kiefer secured the third set with her sixth kill of the match.
Despite the close 25-21 win in the fourth set, UTSA and Louisiana Tech tied the score on seven occasions. The final tie came at the 21-all on an attack error by UTSA, but the Roadrunners managed to score the final four points of the set to clinch their seventh consecutive win. A block by Muenchow and Boskovic gave UTSA match point and that was followed by a miscue by the Lady Techsters.
The Roadrunners will continue their road trip on Sunday with a noon match at UAB (4-16, 1-4 C-USA).
