DALLAS — Jenny Trommer scored her first collegiate goal to give UTSA an early lead, but SMU recorded a pair of second-half goals to rally for a 2-1 win over the visiting Roadrunners on Sunday night at Westcott Field.
Trommer, who became the seventh player to record a goal for the Roadrunners (3-2) this season, handed UTSA its earliest winner of the fall with a strike in the seventh minute. In her first start, the Strausberg, Germany, native took a feed from senior Anissa Munson and finished in the lower right corner of the net for a quick 1-0 lead.
The Roadrunners held the advantage for the remainder of the opening half and limited the Mustangs (2-4) to just four shots.
SMU nearly came up with the equalizer in the 39th minute, but Claire Oates’ header off a corner kick hit off the crossbar.
However, the Mustangs turned up the offensive pressure in second half and took the lead with a pair of goals in less than two minutes.
Paige Jacobs evened the score in the 66th minute after putting away a loose ball in the box after a corner kick. Oates was credited with the assist and in the 68th minute, her header off a long cross from Shelby Redman found the back of the net for what would prove to be the game-winner.
From there, the Mustangs clamped down on defense and kept the Roadrunners from recording a shot in the final 20 minutes.
UTSA will look to get back in the win column at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, when it travels south for matchup at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (1-2-1).
