DENTON — UTSA received top-10 performances from Mike Medrano and Javier Salas en route to a third-place finish at Saturday's Ken Garland Invitational.
Medrano, who placed eighth, circled the Eagle Point Cross Country Course four-mile loop in 20:38.8 and the senior from Mission topped the Roadrunners' contingent for the third consecutive meet to open the campaign.
Meanwhile, Salas was one spot behind his teammate in ninth after clocking a 20:43.3.
Nolawie Teshome (21:05.1/16th), Saul Vasquez (21:41.1/20th) and Tony Jaramillo (21:55.9/23rd) rounded out UTSA's scorers.
The Roadrunners netted 71 points on their way to third place. Meet host North Texas won the team title with a near-perfect score of 17 points, as it claimed five of the top six spots in the individual standings, including champion Troy Taylor, who won in 19:39.3.
UTSA will return to the course on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the UIW Invitational.
