SAN ANTONIO — UTSA's women's cross country team will return to action on Saturday morning when it travels north to Denton for the Ken Garland Invitational.
The 5,000-meter race is scheduled to start at 10:50 a.m. at Eagle Point Cross Country Course, which also will the site of this fall's Conference USA Championships. Rice, No. 24 SMU and TCU will join the host Mean Green and Roadrunners at the meet.
Emily Perez placed second in her season debut and helped lead the Birds to a runner-up performance at last Friday's UTSA Ricardo Romo Classic. The junior from Mission covered the 5,000-meter trail in 18:35.9 and was a little less than five seconds behind individual champion Sanie Raines of Texas, who won the meet in 18:31.2. The Roadrunners finished behind the defending champion Longhorns in the Division I team standings at their annual home meet.
