WOLCOTT, Colo. — Led by a final-round 73 that included a hole-in-one from Brogan Townend, the UTSA women's golf team finished 10th at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, which concluded Wednesday at The Fazio Course (par 72/6,249 yards) at Red Sky Golf Club.
Townend turned in the Roadrunners' low round of the tournament with her 1-over-par scorecard that was highlighted by an ace on the par-3, 145-yard seventh. The junior from England added three birdies and finished the 54-hole event with seven. She tied for 31st with a 228 (77-78-73) and played the par threes at three under, the second-best effort in the 90-player field.
UTSA placed 10th with a 926 (314-309-303) in the tournament that featured one team from 17 different conferences. Pepperdine successfully defended its team title with a 2-under 862 (284-298-280) behind individual medalist Marissa Chow, who carded a 6-under 73-70-67—210. Tennessee (863), Denver (870), Campbell (881) and Louisville (889) rounded out the top five.
Nikki Long registered a 2-over 74 in the final round and tied for 46th with a 232 (79-79-74), while Becky McGeehan and Aimee Ponte both were one shot back in a tie for 51st with identical scorecards of 79-76-78 —233.
The Roadrunners will return to the course on Oct. 12-14 when they travel to Austin to compete in the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational.
