SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s golf team will travel to the Rocky Mountain State to compete at this week's Golfweek Conference Challenge. The three-day tournament is scheduled to tee off on Monday at the Tom Fazio Course (par 72/6,249 yards) at Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo.
The Roadrunners will face teams from 16 other conferences, including Golfweek Top-50 teams in No. 12 and defending champion Pepperdine, No. 40 Louisville, No. 42 Campbell and No. 48 Denver. Colorado, Georgetown, Illinois State, Lamar, Long Beach State, Nebraska, New Mexico, TCU, Tennessee, Texas State and Toledo also will join the Roadrunners in the tournament field, which will play 18 holes each day.
UTSA is coming off a tie for seventh place with TCU at the season-opening The “Mo”Morial on Sept. 8-10 in Bryan. Nikki Long tied for 16th with an 8-over-par 224 (73-77-74) and Brogan Townend tied for 20th with a 226 (77-70-79) to lead the Roadrunners to a 909 (299-306-204).
The Birds last played in the Golfweek Conference Challenge in 2012. Behind a runner-up showing from Fabiola Arriaga, who carded a 75-68-69—212, UTSA placed seventh with a 904 (307-296-301).
