UTSA falls to Baylor on Friday night, 4-0

SAN ANTONIO — Baylor scored three second-half goals to pull away for a 4-0 victory at UTSA on Friday night at Park West Athletics Complex.

Ashley York scored a pair of goals to lead the Bears (6-3), while goalie Emma Makela came away with four saves for the Roadrunners (4-3-1).

Baylor jumped ahead with a goal in the seventh minute and put the game away with three winners in the final 11 minutes of the match.

Bri Campos put the visitors ahead early with a header off a free kick from Katie Daigle that bounced over Makela’s head and into the net for her fourth goal of the season.

From there the Baylor defense took over and kept UTSA away from Michelle Kloss, who helped the team to its fifth shutout this fall. The Bears outshot the Roadrunners in the period, 7-0, and took the 1-0 lead to halftime.

During the intermission, the rain began to fall and continued for the opening 10 minutes of the second half.

Neither team was able to change the 1-0 score until Baylor began to add on to its lead starting in the 80th minute.

York picked up the first of her two goals with an unassisted blast from about 30 yards out, before Justine Hovden made it 3-0 with a successful penalty kick in the 86th minute. York then capped the scoring in the 87th minute with another goal, this time on another assist from Daigle.

UTSA managed four shots in the second half, but was unable to come away with a goal.

The Roadrunners will return to the pitch at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, when it opens Conference USA play at UAB (2-5).
