Roadrunners to play at local St. Mary's Quad Invitational this weekend

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s tennis squad will return to the court this weekend when it stays in town for the St. Mary’s Quad Invitational.

The Roadrunners will open tournament play against event host St. Mary's at 4:30 p.m. on Friday before taking on Tarleton State (8:30 a.m.) and Incarnate Word (1:30 p.m.) the following day. The teams will use a format of four singles and a pair of doubles matches in each contest.

Miriam Rosell Canudas won the singles title, Jacobea Junger captured the consolation crown and the pair advanced to the doubles championship match to lead UTSA at last weekend's season-opening Marco & Co. Catering Islanders Open.

Rosell Canudas  cruised through the singles draw by winning all four of her matches in straight sets, while Junger bounced back from her opening-round loss in the main draw with four victories, all of which came in two stanzas.

The duo nearly made it a clean sweep, but it was unable to win Sunday's doubles final.
