Roadrunners to host Houston, UTSA Classic this weekend

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA (2-6) will welcome a trio of teams to the Alamo City this weekend, as it will host Houston on Thursday night in the 2014 home opener followed by Baylor and LSU in the UTSA Classic the following two days.

A total of five matches will be played at the Convocation Center this weekend festivities, three of which will involve the Roadrunners (2-6).

UTSA will face the Cougars (2-6) at 6 p.m. in Thursday's home opener before taking on LSU (2-4) and Baylor (9-2) the next two nights at 6 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.

The Roadrunners, who opened the fall with eight consecutive matches away from the Alamo City, are coming off three losses at last weekend's Marquette Invitational where they faced Green Bay, James Madison and Marquette for the first time in program history.

UTSA is 2-4 all-time against Houston and it last faced the Cougars in 2012 in the Bayou City when it won in four sets (25-14, 25-21, 20-25, 27-25). Meanwhile, the Roadrunners last faced both the Tigers and Bears in 2013 and lost both matches. UTSA is 0-3 all-time against LSU and 4-17 against Baylor.

Dajana Boskovic, who leads UTSA with 4.23 kills per set, was an all-tournament selection last weekend. She also is averaging 3.23 digs and 0.77 blocks per frame.

Kylie Schott is hitting a team-best .345, which is good for sixth in Conference USA. Schott also adds 0.76 blocks per frame to the defense and just recently cracked into the top 10 in UTSA's all-time blocks record book with 255. She needs five more to tie McKenzie Adams for ninth on the list.

Defensively, Annie Kunes leads the team with 5.52 digs per set, which tops C-USA and ranks 10th nationally. As a team, UTSA is averaging more digs per set than their opponents (17.47-15.97), which leads C-USA and ranks 12th in the country.
