Kunes named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week

IRVING — Annie Kunes was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

The Fontana, Wis., native recorded 72 digs (5.54 digs per set) in three matches at last weekend's season-opening Texas A&M Invitational, as the UTSA won two of its first three outings of the fall.

Kunes registered 18 digs in Friday's season opener against Tulane and helped hold the Green Wave to a .120 attack percentage, as the Roadrunners won in four sets.

After tallying 18 digs in Friday night's four-set loss to Iowa, she came up big against Texas A&M in the tournament finale with a career-best 39 digs. UTSA's five-set victory was the first-ever in program history against the Aggies.

The Roadrunners (2-1) will continue their season-opening eight-match road trek on Friday, Sept. 5, when they head to San Marcos for the Delta Zeta Classic.  UTSA will face tournament host and I-35 rival Texas State at 7 p.m. on Friday.
