Wangui races to Alamo City Opener title on Friday evening

LIVE OAK — Stephanie Wangui raced to the first individual title of her career and she led UTSA's six-woman contingent at Friday's Alamo City Opener.

The senior from Leander covered the 4,000-meter trail in 14:46.95 to top the field 20 Division I runners and lead the Roadrunners at the season-opening meet.

Other scorers for UTSA included Kerstin Sheehan (ninth place/15:43.94), Lauren Haney (12th/16:01.99), Brianna Mendiola (16th/16:28.66) and Grace Kohler (17t/16:37.24).

UTSA placed third among DI teams with 53 points. Meet host Incarnate Word won the team crown with 27 points.

The Roadrunners will return to action in three weeks when they host the annual UTSA Ricardo Romo Classic.
