LIVE OAK — Mike Medrano captured the third individual title of his career and the senior from Mission helped lead UTSA to a second-place team finish at Friday's season-opening Alamo City Opener.
Medrano covered the Live Oak City Park 6,000-meter loop in 19:04.74 to easily outdistance runner-up James Leonard of Texas State by nearly eight seconds.
Javier Salas was the second Roadrunner to cross the finish line and his time of 19:25.49 was good for fifth place in the field of 25 Division I runners.
Meanwhile, Nolawie Teshome (10th/19:59.06), Harvinder Singh (11th/20:14.83) and Saul Vasquez (13th/20:19.29) rounded out the squad's five scorers.
UTSA netted 40 team points, which was 15 behind meet champion and I-35 rival Texas State.
The Roadrunners will return to action on Friday, Sept. 19, when they host the annual UTSA Ricardo Romo Classic.
