LAWRENCE, Kan. — Sophomore Brianna Livecchi’s goal in the 74th minute knotted the score, but Lois Heuchan’s winner less than a minute later lifted Kansas to a 2-1 victory against UTSA on Friday evening at the Jayhawks Soccer Complex.
Senior Charlotte Husoe supplied the assist on Livecchi’s goal for the Roadrunners, who fell to 2-1 on the season, while the Jayhawks improved to 3-0.
After a scoreless first half that saw UTSA out-shoot Kansas, 7-4, the Jayhawks opened the scoring in the 65th minute.
Liana Salazar took a feed from Ali Kimura and blasted a shot from about 20 yards out that slipped past UTSA keeper Katherine Tesno for a 1-0 lead.
However, the Roadrunners turned up the pressure and Husoe found Livecchi with a cross that the San Antonio native headed home for the equalizer in the 74th minute.
The deadlock would not last for long, as Heuchan’s shot from 25 yards out found the back of the net just 43 seconds later to put the home squad ahead for good.
UTSA threatened in the final minutes, but could not come up with another equalizer and suffered its first loss of the fall.
The Roadrunners will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, when they will host McNeese State (1-1) at Park West Athletics Complex.
