SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Football signees Blake Bogenschutz (Carthage, Texas/Carthage HS), Triston Crossland (Corpus Christi, Texas/Calallen HS) and Isaiah Santos (Spring, Texas/Klein Collins HS) will play in the annual Texas High School Coaches All-Star Game on Tuesday evening at their future home, the Alamodome.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. and it can be seen live on FOX Sports Southwest. All three will suit up for the South squad, which will be coached by El Campo head coach Bob Gillis.
Bogenschutz, a 2013 Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Top 300 selection, won 35 games, including 11 in the postseason, as a starter during his three-year career at Cathage High School. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound quarterback threw 126 career touchdown passes, which is the fifth-most in state history, and his 9,569 passing yards stand 11th on the Lone Star State’s all-time list. He owns every passing record in school annals and helped lead the Bulldogs to a 15-1 record and the 2013 UIL Class 3A Division I State Championship where he was named the game’s Offensive Most Valuable Player. Bogenschutz named first-team All-Class 3A, the East Texas Co-Offensive Player of the Year and District 20-3A Most Valuable Player after completing 231-of-391 passes for 4,003 yards and 57 scores (No. 5 state history) against just four interceptions as a senior. He helped guide the squad to 11 victories and a berth in the 2012 UIL Class 3A Division I semifinals as a junior after throwing for 2,870 yards and 40 TDs en route to District MVP laurels. Bogenschutz connected on 179-of-324 throws for 2,696 yards and 29 scores as a sophomore in leading the Bulldogs to nine wins. The academic all-state honoree who ranked at the top of his graduating class was coached by Scott Surratt.
Meanwhile, Crossland saw action at receiver, tight end and linebacker during his prep career at Calallen High School. The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder had 30 receptions for 552 yards and seven touchdowns en route to first-team All-District 30-4A and Most Valuable Receiver accolades as a senior, as the Wildcats won 11 games and advanced to the Class 4A Division II region final. He earned second-team All-District 30-4A honors as a junior after catching 32 passes for 459 yards and three scores while helping lead the squad to nine wins. An academic all-district honoree, Crossland was coached by Phil Danaher.
Santos, who is expected to grayshirt this fall, is a prep linebacker who will make the move to safety at the collegiate level. The 6-foot, 185-pounder earned second-team All-District 13-5A laurels his final two seasons at Klein Collins High School in the Greater Houston area. A three-year starter who helped lead team to 20 victories during his career, he recorded 74 tackles, one sack, a forced fumble and one fumble recovery as a senior.
