MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 3-2 victory against UTSA on Sunday at Reese Smith Jr. Field.
Freshman Brad Jerreau came through with the game-tying RBI single for the Blue Raiders (24-24, 12-12 C-USA) and he scored later in the inning on a wild pitch to help Middle Tennessee avoid a weekend sweep.
Jerreau finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
The Roadrunners (30-19, 14-10 C-USA) built a 2-1 lead courtesy of RBI singles by Mike Warren and Andre Vieyra in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively.
Logan Onda threw a career-high 6.1 innings in relief and recorded five strikeouts to keep the Blue Raiders’ offense in check until the final inning.
Hank LaRue led off the bottom of the ninth with an infield single and he scored from second on Jerreau’s single up the middle. Following a sacrifice bunt by Dustin Delgado that moved Jerreau into scoring position with two outs, Onda threw a pair of wild pitches with Jerreau scoring the walk-off victory on the second.
John Bormann went 3-for-4 with a run scored to pace the UTSA offense.
The Roadrunners will play their final home series of the season next weekend against No. 14 Rice (31-15, 18-6 C-USA).
