UTSA to conclude regular season at East Carolina

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will embark on its final regular season voyage this weekend when it plays  a three-game series at East Carolina. First pitch in Thursday's opener is scheduled for 5 p.m. (CT).

The final regular season stop has postseason implications, as both the Roadrunners (31-22, 15-12 C-USA) and Pirates (30-23, 14-13 C-USA) are in the thick of the projected Conference USA Tournament field. Neither team officially has clinched a berth in next week’s postseason event in Hattiesburg, Miss., but any combination of one UTSA win or one Florida Atlantic loss to UAB clinches a spot in the eight-team tournament for the Roadrunners.

UTSA has lost three consecuitve outings after knocking off No. 14 Rice in last Friday’s series opener in the Alamo City. Mike Warren continues to lead Conference USA with 43 RBIs.

East Carolina dropped two-of-three games at Southern Miss last weekend before rebounding to defeat High Point on Tuesday night. The Pirates’ pitching ace and projected top draft pick Jeff Hoffman was lost for the season this week due to ligament damage in his right elbow.

This weekend will mark the first-ever meetings between the two programs.
