Mokry pitches UTSA past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday night, 10-2

CORPUS CHRISTI — Boone Mokry allowed just one run in a career-high seven innings and four UTSA hitters drove in two runs each to propel the Roadrunners to a 10-2 victory at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday night at Chapman Field.

Mokry (1-1) allowed six hits, struck out two and did not walk a batter to win his first game in Roadrunners uniform.

UTSA (22-11) got on the board in the third with a RBI single from Horacio Correa III, who finished the game 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored. C.J. Pickering scored on the play after leading off the inning with a double to left center.

John Welborn got a four-run fourth inning started for the Birds scoring John Bormann on a single to right center. A batter later Correa III reached first on a fielding error by Josh Garza at short allowing Pickering to score uneared. Mike Warren followed two batters later with a two-run single into center field that extended his consecutive reached base streak to 27 games and gave the Roadrunners a 5-0 edge.

UTSA continued to build its lead while Mokry worked through the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (17-18) lineup.

Jesse Baker laced a two-run double to right center in the sixth to push the lead to 7-0. It was Baker’s second double of the game as the sophomore finished 2-for-4.

The lead extended to double digits in the top of the eighth when Correa III singled home Welborn and Tony Ramirez plated two on a single to left.

The Islanders added two runs in the eighth but never threatened any further as UTSA defeated its former Southland Conference foe for the fourth time in five games.

UTSA will return home for a weekend three-game series against Marshall (12-18, 7-7 C-USA) beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday.
