No. 22 Roadrunners rack up four victories at Saturday's UTSA Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — Richard Garrett Jr., Keyunta Hayes, Taylor Reed and Harvinder Singh all captured gold medals for the No. 22 Roadrunners at Saturday's UTSA Invitational, which was contested at the Park West Athletics Complex.

Garrett Jr. topped the field of 15 shot putters with his measurement of 64-1 (19.53m), which was just a two-and-a-quarter inches shy of his program record established earlier this season at the UTSA Texas Challenge Invitational (March 22). He now has won three of his four outings this spring.

Meanwhile, Hayes clocked a 51.42 to lead a UTSA 1-2-3-4 finish in the 400-meter hurdles. The All-American from Tyler picked up his second victory of the spring and third top-two finish in his specialty event.

Reed cleared 17-1 ½ (5.22m) for his second triumph of the campaign in the pole vault and he now has eclipsed 17 feet three times this year.

Singh edged Sam Houston State's Karl Schreiber by a little more than a second for his first-ever victory in the 3,000m. The junior from Huffman clocked a career-best time of 8:45.97 to top the field of 17 distance runners.

The Roadrunners also recorded a quintet of runner-up performances, as Keith Benford (high jump/6-6 ¾/2.00m), Nate Brunette (200m/21.06), Garrett Jr. (discus/178-9/54.48m), Jonas Gutierrez (long jump/23-7 ½/7.20m) and Levi Jordan (javelin/166-8/50.81m) all earned silver medals.

Barrett Brock (pole vault/PR 16-1 ¾/4.92m) and Jared Tyler (discus/PR 171-9/52.34m) registered the squad's other two podium finishes with their third-place efforts.

UTSA will return to action next Satuday, April 26, at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight in Houston.
