SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will return to Conference USA action this weekend when it travels to Norfolk, Va., to face Old Dominion. First pitch of the three-game series is scheduled for 5 p.m. (CT) on Thursday. The set will continue at the same time the following evening and conclude at 11 a.m. (CT) on Saturday due to Easter Sunday.
The Roadrunners (25-12, 10-5 C-USA), who have won six of their last nine outings, enter the weekend in a three-way tie for second place in the league standings with Southern Mississippi and UAB.
UTSA scored six runs in the eighth inning to rally for a 7-2 victory against I-35 rival Texas State on Tuesday night.
Senior left fielder Tony Ramirez has multiple hits in his last four games, while the Roadrunner’s weekend triumvirate of starting pitchers — Brock Hartson, Nolan Trabanino and Justin Anderson — will bring a combined 2.11 ERA into the series and that is tied for seventh nationally among weekend rotations.
Meanwhile, the Monarchs (22-15, 10-8 C-USA) also have won six of their past nine games following last weekend’s series win against East Carolina. Old Dominion, which sports a .284 team batting average, is led by P.J. Higgins, who is hitting at a .346 clip.
This weekend will mark the first meetings between the two programs.
