WICHITA, Kan. — John Bormann has been named to the watch list for the 2014 Johnny Bench Award presented by BaseballSavings.com for the second consecutive season, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced on Thursday.
Bormann, a junior from Seguin, caught every inning for UTSA during last season’s run to the Western Athletic Conference Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament Corvalis (Ore.) Regional. He is one of six Conference USA backstops that are nominated for this year’s award.
The Johnny Bench Award is presented annually to the nation's top collegiate catcher. The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists on May 15. Ballots then will be sent to a national voting panel for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 3 and a final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at the 17th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 26.
