Roadrunners fly by Louisiana Tech on Saturday, 10-1

SAN ANTONIO — RJ Perucki and Horacio Correa III each tallied three hits and scored twice to lead UTSA to a 10-1 victory over Louisiana Tech Saturday at Roadrunner Field.

Nolan Trabanino pushed his season record to 5-0 allowing one earned run over six innings of work as UTSA (18-9, 5-3 C-USA) improved to 6-1 in games started by the left-hander.

The Roadrunners took an early 1-0 lead on C.J. Pickering’s RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. It was the only run scored through the contest’s first four innings as Trabanino and Louisiana Tech (9-16, 3-8 C-USA) starter Adam Derouen controlled the opposing offenses.

Three straight UTSA singles to open the bottom of the fifth chased Derouen and brought Mike Warren to the plate. The senior first baseman drew a walk to score Correa III and give UTSA a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Tony Ramirez reached on an error by the Bulldogs’ Thomas Simoneaux allowing two more runs to score. Pickering added a squeeze bunt to score Warren and Logan Kinder drove in Ramirez with a single through the middle of the diamond to complete the five-run UTSA fifth.

Warren finished the day 2-for-4 with a double and a game-high three RBIs. The San Antonio native also added his third stolen base of the season.

After the Bulldogs plated a run in the top of the seventh, UTSA scored the final four runs of the game.

Ramirez powered an RBI single to right to score Warren in the seventh while Correa III added an RBI double in the eighth. Warren closed out the offensive outburst later in the eighth with a two-run double into the left field corner.

Logan Onda pitched the final three frames without allowing a hit for his fourth save of the season.

The three-game series will conclude at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
