HATTIESBURG, Miss. — UTSA built an 8-2 lead, but Southern Mississippi scored eight of the contest's final nine runs, including Dylan Bordeaux's two-run walk-off homer in the ninth with two outs to claim Sunday's rubber match, 10-9, at Pete Taylor Park.
RJ Perucki and Jesse Baker combined to go 5-for-10 with four runs scored and five RBIs, as the Roadrunners (16-8, 3-3 C-USA) capitalized on three Golden Eagles (12-12, 4-2 C-USA) errors to build the six-run advantage through four innings.
However, Southern Miss began to chip away at the lead with a Mason Robbins solo home run and an Austin Roussel RBI single in the fourth.
Robbins finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored.
After Perucki stole home in the top of the seventh to stabilize the Roadrunners' lead back to 9-4, the Golden Eagles plated two runs in each the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.
Matt Sims struck Matt Durst to open the final inning, but Robbins then reached on an error by Baker at second base. Sims then got Bradley Roney to line out to right and climb to within one out of the series victory. However, Burdeaux sent a drive over the left-field wall on the second pitch he saw to send Southern Miss to the walk-off win.
UTSA will host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (11-15) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Roadrunner Field.
