BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Jared Tyler placed third in the weight throw on Saturday to lead the UTSA men's track & field team on the final day of this weekend's Conference USA Indoor Championships.

Tyler tossed the 35-pound implement a career-long 54-7 ¼ (16.64m), which topped his previous personal best by nearly six feet. Andris Vistins (fifth/52-11 ½/16.14m) and Andrew Akens (seventh/PR 51-7 ¾/15.74m) joined Tyler in the top eight, which gave the Roadrunners a combined 12 points in the event.

UTSA, which came into the meet riding a streak of eight consecutive league titles, finished seventh in the team standings with 66 points. UTEP (123) cruised to the league championship, while Louisiana Tech (77.5) and East Carolina (71.5) rounded out the top three.

Christopher Hall just missed a podium finish in the 400 meters when he clocked a personal-best time of 47.97 en route to fourth place.

Meanwhile, the 1,600m relay of Jurmarcus Shelvin, Hall, Mason Loiodice and Joshua Smith passed the baton in 3:16.36, which was good for fifth.
