SAN ANTONIO — Kamra King scored 19 points and Miki Turner added 17 but UTSA was unable to complete a late comeback and it lost to Florida Atlantic, 71-69, on Saturday at the Convocation Center.
Akunna Elonu matched a career-high with 11 points to join King and Turner in double figures and McKenzie Adams had a game-high 11 rebounds for her third double-digit performance of the season.
Takia Brooks was 9-of-10 from the free throw line and 6-of-11 from the field to tally a game-high 24 points for Florida Atlantic (15-13, 5-10 C-USA). Latavia Dempsey added 15 to help the Owls win their second consecutive contest.
In the first half, the Owls led from the start going up by as many as eight on a Brooks’ 3-pointer with 9:58 left in the half.
UTSA closed to within four at 38-34 at halftime, as it rode a 20-12 edge in points in the paint and 22-16 advantage in bench points.
The Owls used a 15-2 run early in the second half after King tied the game at 42 with 16:54 remaining. Brooks was the catalyst during the game's decisive run with 10 points, including a pair of triples.
Playing their final home game of the season, the Roadrunners continued to fight and whittled down the Owls lead to 66-62 on a free throw by Turner. Following a defensive stop, King drove the left side of the lane and flipped a layup in that would have cut deficit in half but the junior was called for an offensive foul.
UTSA had one final chance at a victory when Latavia Dempsey miss a free throw with 1.8 seconds left but the Roadrunners were unable to get a shot off before the buzzer sounded.
The Birds will play their final game of the regular season on Wednesday, March 5, at Marshall (9-18, 2-12 C-USA).
