IRVING — Tomas Stillman was named Conference USA Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Stillman posted a pair of singles victories and combined with Joel Rubio for two doubles wins to help lead UTSA to a 2-0 record last week.
The junior from Harlingen upset No. 125-ranked Carlos Arbiza of UT Arlington at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). Stillman and Rubio, ranked 27th nationally, dispatched the No. 49-ranked tandem of Arbiza and Javier Perez with an 8-2 decision in doubles to help the Roadrunners to a 4-3 road win against the Mavericks last Friday. In a 5-2 victory against New Mexico State on Saturday, Stillman scored a 6-3, 6-2 sweep of Paul Denele in singles and was part of an 8-7 (7-2) doubles win.
Stillman owns a 12-1 singles record and has paired with Rubio for a 12-1 mark in doubles play this year.
This marks UTSA's first-ever C-USA Tennis Male Athlete of the Week honor and ends a seven-week span of winners from Tulsa.
The Roadrunners (6-9) will return to action on Saturday when they open a four-match home stand against Incarnate Word at 10 a.m.
