NEW ORLEANS, La. — Brogan Townend tied for 32nd place and led UTSA to a 17th-place finish at this week's Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship, which concluded on Tuesday at English Turn Golf & Country Club (par 72/6,140 yards).
After firing a one-over 145 through the first two rounds on Monday, Townend carded a 74 on the final day en route to a three-over-par 219 (75-70-74).
Senior Fabiola Arriaga finished four shots back and tied for 53rd (73-72-78—223). Taylor Newlin tied for 66th with a 226 (73-77-76), while Chelsea Bretcher tied for 83rd at 233 (80-81-72). Aimee Ponte rounded out the lineup with a 239 (83-79-77) to place 88th.
UTSA posted a 299 in the final round to finish with a 54-hole score of 898 (301-298-299).
No. 2 UCLA claimed the team title with a 21-under 843 (285-277-281) and was followed by top-ranked Southern California (849), No. 18 Florida (858), No. 44 Denver and No. 11 Clemson.
Meanwhile, Auburn’s Marta Sanz won the individual title with an eight-under 208 (71-69-68).
UTSA will return to action in two weeks when they travel to Gainesville, Fla., for the SunTrust Gator Invitational. The three-day tournament is slated to tee off on Friday, March 14.
