NORFOLK, Va. — The UTSA men's tennis team dropped its third consecutive 4-3 decision in a setback on Saturday at Old Dominion.
The Roadrunners (3-6) took an early 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point.
Yannick Junger and Boburjon Kamiljanov teamed up for an 8-4 win against Zvonimir Podvinski and Dante Terenzio at No. 2, while Diogo Casa and Fabian Brand took care of Keon Wiggemans and Darragh Glavin on the third court to clinch the point. UTSA's No. 16-ranked tandem of Joel Rubio and Tomas Stillman did not finish their match at the top spot against Carlos Lopez Villa and Jonas Kuwert.
The Monarchs (7-2) recorded the first three singles wins, but UTSA rallied for a pair of victories to knot the score at three.
Stillman posted a 6-2, 6-0 win against Podvinski at No. 4 to run his season record to 7-1, while Kamiljanov downed Abdulaye Camara at No. 6, 0-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Kuwert beat Casa in the decisive match at No. 2 by a 7-5, 6-3 count.
The Roadrunners will make the short trip to Williamsburg, Va., to face William & Mary (7-6), the alma mater of UTSA head coach Jeff Kader, at 9 a.m. (CT) on Sunday.
