SAN ANTONIO — Old Dominion used a 15-1 second-half run to end UTSA’s two-game winning streak, 68-57, on Saturday night at the Convocation Center.
Tesha Smith led UTSA (13-13, 4-9 C-USA) with 10 points and 11 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double.
Galaisha Goodhope had a game-high 15 points for Old Dominion (13-14, 6-8 C-USA) to lead four Lady Monarchs in double figures. Shae Kelley and Destinee Young each added 12, as ODU improved to 4-2 in its last six games.
The Lady Monarchs opened the game on a 10-4 run that included three straight buckets from Young.
Ashley Spaletta knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to give UTSA its first lead of the game with 10:32 left in the half.
The two teams battled back-and-forth from there until halftime with Goodhope converting an old-fashioned three-point play with five-seconds left to put ODU up 32-28.
The second half looked to be a harbinger of the first following Dwanisha Tate’s jumper at the 16:00 mark cut the Lady Monarchs lead to 39-36.
But the Roadrunners offense went stagnant from then on failing to convert a field goal for over six minutes. During the drought the Lady Monarchs lead ballooned to 17 points and UTSA could not recover.
UTSA will travel to El Paso for an 8 p.m. (CT) contest on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at UTEP (20-5, 9-3 C-USA).
