UTSA to travel to Corpus Christi this weekend for Kleberg Bank College Classic

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA baseball team will look to bounce back from its first setback of the season when it travels to Corpus Christi for this weekend's Kleberg Bank College Classic. The tournament will be played at Whataburger Field, the home of the Corpus Christi Hooks (Triple A affiliate of the Houston Astros) and it features BYU, No. 19 TCU and host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in addition to the Roadrunners.

UTSA will begin play at 6 p.m. on Friday against the host Islanders (2-3) before a matchup with BYU (0-4) at 2 p.m. the following day. The Roadrunners will conclude tournament play at noon on Sunday with their first meeting against a ranked team this season in No. 19 TCU (3-1).

After opening the season with a three-game sweep of Saint Peter’s, UTSA (3-1) was dealt its first defeat on Tuesday night by Houston Baptist, 9-7 in 13 innings.

John Welborn, Mike Warren, and Horacio Correa III enter this weekend's event with batting averages north of .400 for the Roadrunners, who have a team average of .338 through the season’s first four contests.

UTSA has been equally as strong on the mound this season with strong starts from starters Brock Hartson, Nolan Trabanino and Justin Anderson, as well as relievers Logan Onda and Matt Sims. Sims has yielded only two hits in 4.2 frames of work with eight strikeouts.
