Texas State downs UTSA on Wednesday night, 8-0

SAN MARCOS — Texas State blew open a 1-0 game with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to score an 8-0 run-rule victory against UTSA on Wednesday night at Bobcat Stadium.

Siera Sproul went 2-for-2 and walked to reach base in all three chances for the Roadrunners (4-6), who totaled six hits. Meanwhile, reigning Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week Rayn House threw all five frames and totaled three strikeouts to back the offensive performance for the Bobcats (8-3).

UTSA put a pair of runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings, and four of the five overall, but could not put a dent in the scoreboard.

Texas State broke through with a run in the third on Kortney Koroll’s RBI single up the middle and put together its big inning after the Roadrunners failed to cash in on a bases-loaded opportunity in the fifth.

In the bottom of the inning, the home squad sent 12 batters to the plate and scored its seven runs on just four hits. With the bases loaded, Koroll came back from a 1-2 count to draw a walk to plate her second run of the night and end the contest at 8-0.

The Roadrunners will be back in action and will look to snap a six-game skid on Friday when it opens play at the UTSA Mid-Major Classic at Roadrunner Field. UTSA will start the event with a 2 p.m. contest against Bryant (0-0) before a 4:30 p.m. matchup against Omaha (6-3).
