Oklahoma State blanks Roadrunners on Sunday, 8-0

SAN ANTONIO — Simone Freeman tossed five no-hit frames and Oklahoma State scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth for an 8-0 run-rule victory at UTSA on Sunday afternoon in the final game of this weekend's UTSA Classic.

Gessenia DeLaCruz drove in three runs for the Cowgirls (7-3), who went a perfect 5-0 in the three-day event, while Shelby Davis and Tara Ettinger each went 2-for-3 at the plate. That proved to be more than enough offense to back Freeman’s performance, which included eight strikeouts and four walks.

Meanwhile, Nicole Merrill took the loss for the Roadrunners (4-5) after allowing six runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

Playing as the home team, Oklahoma State scored two runs in the first on just one hit thanks to three walks. The Cowgirls then added a run in the fourth and ended the game with five runs in the bottom of the fifth.

UTSA will look to bounce back on Wednesday when it travels to San Marcos for a 6 p.m. matchup at I-35 rival Texas State (7-3).
