SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will participate in its final meet leading into the Conference USA Championships (Feb. 28-March 1 in Birmingham, Ala.) on Friday when it travels to the Bayou City for the Houston Tune-Up.
The one-day event is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m. at Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Houston and the Roadrunners will send a total of 44 athletes (25 women/19 men) to the meet. More than 600 participants from Houston Baptist, Lamar, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Southern and Texas State also will be competing.
UTSA is coming off a solid showing at last weekend's Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York City, as the Roadrunners won two events and set three program records.
Ernestine Cray (19-8 ¾/6.01m/long jump) and Aaron LeJeune (6.91/60m dash) both were victorious on Friday, while Nathan Collier (2:27.32) and Nina Herrera (2:54.24) both established school records in the 1,000 meters. Meanwhile, the women's distance medley relay of Herrera, Venessa Onwuchekwa, Stephanie Wangui and Emily Perez passed the baton in 11:39.14 in a runner-up effort, which stands as the top performance in Conference USA this season.
