Roadrunners to host McNeese State, UTEP this weekend

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will return to the courts this weekend when it opens its home schedule with a pair of matches against McNeese State and UTEP.

The Roadrunners will host the Cowboys at 10 a.m. on Saturday and the Miners at the same time the following day.

UTSA (0-3) dropped all three matches of last week’s season-opening road trip, including Saturday’s 5-2 setback against New Mexico. Both points came at the top two singles spots, as Jacobea Junger and Miriam Rosell Canudas both were victorious in three sets. Rosell Canudas leads the team with her 2-1 singles record this season.

McNeese State and UTEP will open their seasons with a Friday match in the Alamo City. The Cowboys were 13-10 last year, while the Miners were 12-12.

The Roadrunners defeated McNeese State by a score of 4-2 in the last meeting between the two teams on April 15, 2012. UTSA handed UTEP a 4-1 defeat earlier that season on Feb. 19.
