SAN ANTONIO — Eric Soza completed 17-of-20 passes for 271 yards and one touchdown and UTSA's defense held Louisiana Tech to 193 total yards en route to a 30-10 victory before 26,549 fans on Saturday at the Alamodome.
The Roadrunners wrapped up their third season of play with a 7-5 record and finished second in the Conference USA West Division with a 6-2 mark. Louisiana Tech ended its season at 4-8 (3-5 C-USA).
UTSA outgained the Bulldogs, 475-193, and posted a 38:17-21:43 edge in time of possession in matching the program record with its fifth consecutive victory. The Birds held Louisiana Tech to just 42 yards on the ground, a season low for opponents, and to just 2-of-14 (14.3 percent) on third-down conversions.
Evans Okotcha eclipsed the century mark for the second straight outing with 105 yards and a score on a school-record 26 carries and he added 68 receiving yards on a pair of receptions.
The Roadrunners opened up the scoring with a three-play, 70-yard touchdown drive. Following a 36-yard pass to Okotcha, Soza found Jarveon Williams for a 31-yard score.
Kyle Fischer's 24-yard field goal put the Bulldogs on the board with 4:28 left in the opening stanza, but the Roadrunners quickly responded.
UTSA converted on 3rd-and-9 on the following drive when Soza completed a 28-yard pass to Cole Hubble and, three plays later, Soza found paydirt from 20 yards out to hand the Roadrunners a 14-3 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
The Roadrunners tacked on three points on Sean Ianno's 21-yard field goal midway through the second period, but Louisiana Tech made it a one-score contest when Adairius Barnes intercepted Soza at the UTSA 26-yard line and returned it for a touchdown.
Soza missed two series due to injury — one on each side of halftime — but returned with 9:25 left in the third quarter and promptly engineered a scoring drive.
On the first play, the senior from Beeville completed a 32-yard pass to Okotcha down to the Louisiana Tech 21-yard line. Five plays later, Okotcha rumbled in from one yard out to help push the UTSA lead to 24-10.
Ianno added two field goals from 21 and 37 yards in the fourth quarter to provide the final 20-point margin.
Triston Wade led the defense with eight tackles, while Nic Johnston added seven and Cody Berry recorded his second interception of the year.
