MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Regular season champion UTSA will open Conference USA Tournament play on Friday against eighth-seeded Southern Mississippi. The first quarterfinal of the day is scheduled for noon at Alumni Memorial Gym.
UTSA (21-7) leads the all-time series, 3-0, following its four-set victory in Hattiesburg on Oct. 11. Conference USA Player of the Year McKenzie Adams led three Roadrunners in double figures with a team-high 17 kills and added 14 digs in the win, while Dajana Boskovic and Dempsey Thornton each tallied 15, as UTSA captured the final two sets of the match.
The Golden Eagles (17-13) dispatched ninth-seeded UTEP in Thursday’s tournament opener in five sets by scores of 25-22, 23-25, 28-30, 31-29, and 15-11.
UTSA leads the league in both attack percentage (.289) and opponent attack percentage (.129) and the Roadrunners rank third nationally in digs per set.
Southern Miss will counter with second-team All-C-USA outside hitter Quinci Hayward, who powered down 31 kills in Thursday's triumph against the Miners.
